Smoothbox – Smooth Jazz from Berlin

Smoothbox is pleased and proud to present the release of their  first CD!

Our band Smoothbox was formed in 2013 inspired by a JazzRadio Berlin broadcast. During the  first years we dedicated ourselves to what we love doing most – playing live – but now  you can take our music home with you or listen to us while on the go! This CD is a spicy mix of 12 songs with original compositions and Smooth Jazz classics. We‘ve seasoned and served it up with the  avors of latin, soul, funk and a pinch of hard bop. So sit back, enjoy ... and we hope to see you soon at one of our concerts!

As played on:

CD Titles

  1. Weekend In L.A.
Our CD opens with a classic tune from jazz legend George Benson. We also like to kick off our live shows with this song for that “cruising with the top down” vibe! Anhören
  2. I Wish
A Smooth Jazz version of Steve Wonder‘s hit song with the spotlight on our singer Johanna Bärmann.
  3. Women's Advice
The CD‘s title track was composed by Rurik van Heys in the spirit of the legendary Paul Brown.
  4. Cadillac Jack
This song is dedicated to guitarist Jeff Golub who passed away far too young.
  5. Island Dreams
Who hasn‘t dreamed of a desert island with long sandy beaches and palm trees gently swaying in the ocean breezes? With “Island Dreams” our guitarist Haymo Doerk has set the scene.
  6. Midnight At The Oasis
Maria Muldaur‘s version of this wonderful and timeless song from David Nichtern was nominated for “Record of the Year” and
“Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. Stephan Pfaff joins us on bass for this track.
  7. Bobby's Dream
After the fall of the Berlin Wall hard bop once again was popular in the local clubs. Rurik was in the middle of the scene in those days. Here‘s a composition dedicated to the great Bobby Timmons.
  8. Winelight
Our take on a Smooth Jazz classic from the legendary Grover Washington Jr.
  9. Still A Friend Of Mine
Incognito‘s music has graced us with many wonderful hours. Not having one of their songs on our  rst CD would have been unthinkable. Once again Stephan on bass.
  10. Po'boy's Funk
Rurik composed a New Orleans style funk number dedicated to our friend Olaf Dähmlow. For decades Olaf‘s club “Yorckschlösschen” in Kreuzberg (Berlin) has been a reliable location for good music and a great atmosphere. Thanks Olaf!
  11. Rio
A Brazilian samba light as a feather. “Rio” features our drummer Michael Schwarz and was composed by Victor Feldman.
  12. Just The Two Of Us
We round things off with this popular classic. It features a special guest on tenor sax, our recording engineer Tobias Relenberg. Thanks Tobias!
